Healing & Prayer

Healing and Prayer

Prayer in the life blood of Christians, connecting us with God and one another for restoration and renewal.  At its core, prayer is made up of faith, hope, and love.

“I will pray for you” is one of my favorite things to say to people when they share a crisis or challenge they are facing.  And I mean it.  When I am exercising or doing the dishes, I go through my inventory of people I have promised to pray for and I hold them in my mind’s eye, surrounding them with the Light of Christ.  When I am doing these private prayers I very rarely put words on what I am asking of the Lord, figuring He knows best what the person I am praying for needs.

But what I love even more than this is to say “Let’s pray together” and have the person and I hold hands and link hearts and breathe in the Holy Spirit together as we pour out words of praise and thanksgiving while we let our “requests be made known to God.”  As promised by St. Paul in his letter to the Philippians (Chapter 4), I always feel a peace I can hardly understand after such prayers.

Ahhhh, but the crown jewel of prayer is when a group comes together in prayer:  this is when faith, hope, and love flow strongest, for as the Lord has promised, “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” (Matthew 18:20)

Wouldn’t you like to spend more time with the Lord in prayer?  Starting August 6

th we will have a Healing & Prayer Service

every Sunday from 8-8:45am in the Sanctuary.  The service will be simple and personal.  We will open with a short word of encouragement, followed by a chance to share prayer concerns for yourself or others, then we will pray together.  I will have healing oil with me for those who would like to be anointed.  I pray that you will come, and that you will invite friends and family who don’t normally attend worship to come and feel the Lord’s presence.

Adult Sunday School

Every week, 9-9:45, Fireside Room

What a blessing to be appointed to a Church with so many current and retired teachers and school administrators in it!  I am responding to your passion for education by offering a class every Sunday morning in which we can explore what it means now – and what it has meant historically – to be a follower of Jesus Christ.  My PhD in religion had a triple emphasis in anthropology, sociology, and philosophy, plus I’m passionate about Scripture, so you can be sure if I haven’t heard something about the questions that are raised, I can surely find out for the next class!  This is a drop by class, which means you are encouraged to come whenever you can.  No long-term commitment is required.  Each class will open with a topic and a few scholarly observations on my part, then we will open for questions and discussion.  Please let me know if there are topics you want to explore by emailing me at mjzmaaga@yahoo.com or dropping me a note at the Church office.
